An old friend asked me just the other day What I do when I'm bored and I must truthfully say That just doesn't happen in this lifestyle of mine I live every day just to watch the sun as it rises and shines See, I don't work in a factory or sit behind a desk I'm sort of a free spirit, more or less The world is my office and it's a hell of a place I do what I want and nobody's in my space Sometimes I cowboy, whenever I can of course Me and Ol Spook, he's my favorite horse A flea bit gray he stands 17 hands And weighs every bit of 1200 pounds We ride the flats over on Triple B land Move 'em to new feed, out of the mesquite and sand Up to the mountains and on to new range Some people call that a vacation; now isn't that strange? Then on to the Huecos, they're sure rough and tough All full of cactus and rocks and such Mountains so high you can't get to the peak And sometimes coming down you make unmanly little squeaks But it looks like a picture from way up high Watching the clouds as they move across the western sky Not a car or a plane, there's nothing in sight Except what God created with all of his might Now, when I'm home just building my saddles My minds always working, it's never addled A jillion things I've got to plan and do And once in awhile here comes an old memory or two Bulls and ponies and my cowboy friends They're certainly my favorites, sure been plenty of them Long days, hard nights and a senorita or two Cow works and brandings, a big old dog named Blue A lot of friends, and the good times over the years A few I had to lose, and I've shed my tears Now friend, when you read this I hope you will find How boredom doesn't happen with my state of mind I haven't counted all the stars way up in the night sky And there's to many things that I'd still like to try I've yet to sail the ocean or soar on the wind And there's a few old friends that I'd really like to see again I live life to the fullest as you should to There's just not enough time, and much to do. |
