Margaret "Inez" Carter Bridges

SHELBY — Mrs. Margaret “Inez” Carter Bridges, 98, of 1029 Mitchell St., died Wednesday, March 16, 2005, at Hospice at Wendover.

Born Aug. 16, 1906, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph F. Carter and Minnie Richards Carter. She was a member of Lafayette Street United Methodist Church, the Wesley Fellowship Sunday School Class, the afternoon circle and the 39ers Club, all at the church. She retired from Lily Mill after 55 years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Hubbard Bridges; three brothers; three sisters; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Nellie Jones and Treva Wright and husband, Harold, all of Shelby; two sons, Bill Hubbard Bridges and wife, Ramona, and Joseph P. Bridges and wife, Jeanette, all of Shelby; two sisters, Sallie L. Davis of Kings Mountain and Maryland Dover and husband, Gene “Buck,” of Shelby; 16 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Lafayette Street United Methodist Church, with the Rev. A. Owen Peeler officiating. Burial will follow in Cleveland Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Saturday at the church an hour before the service.
