Mary Edith Scism Ashley

June 12, 1920 – Sept. 26, 2006
LAWNDALE — Mrs. Mary Edith Scism Ashley, 86, of 106 Martin St., and resident of Century Care of Shelby for 18 months, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006, at Hospice of Wendover.
She was born in Cleveland County, a daughter of the late Bruce Scism and Fannie Buff Scism. She was the wife of the late Gerald Dean Ashley. She was a member of Lawndale Baptist Church and retired from J & C Dyeing and Cleveland Mills as a winder.
In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Iva Meade, Marie Newton, Clara Mae Towery and Helen Scism, and a brother, Grier Scism.
She is survived by a son, Gerald Dean Ashley Jr. of Lawndale; a daughter, Christine Ashley Blanton of Lawndale; a sister, Estelle Hoyle of Shelby; and grandchildren, Phillip Wright of Lawndale and Jill Ann Cochran of Norfolk, Va.
Visitation: The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.
Funeral: Friday at 2:30 p.m. at Lawndale Baptist Church; the body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service
Burial: Rose Hill Memorial Park
