Iva Scism Meade

SHELBY — Mrs. Iva Scism Meade, 79, of 3563 Plainfield Drive, died Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2005, at Brian Center East in Hickory.

Born Dec. 15, 1925, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Bruce Scism and Fannie Buff Scism. She was a retired winder and a member of Elliott Memorial Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Buren Meade; a daughter, Brenda Brown; a great-grandson, Chad Meade; five sisters, Eula Scism, Clara Mae Towery, Nadine Scism, Marie Newton and Helen Scism; and three brothers, Grier Scism, Ivan Scism and Warren Scism.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, the Rev. Andy Meade Jr.; a daughter, Dorothy Meade of Shelby; a daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Meade Griffin of Shelby; a son-in-law, Gene Brown of Shelby; two sisters, Estelle Hoyle of Shelby and Edith Ashley of Lawndale; a brother, Johnny C. Scism of Casar; seven grandchildren, Chris Meade, Tim Edwards, David Edwards, Danny Edwards, Tracy Burton, Gina Maness and Hope Edwards; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Elliott Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Chris Emory officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at Stamey Funeral Home and at other times at the home of Elizabeth “Sis” Meade Griffin, 3531 Plainfield Drive, Shelby.
