John Howard Self

LAWNDALE — Mr. John Howard Self, 76, formerly of 2619 Ball Park Road, died Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at Hospice at Wendover.

Born Sept. 15, 1928, in Cleveland County, he was a son of Effie Elizabeth Bivins Self of Shelby and the late Joseph Lee Self. He was a retired section leader at Cleveland Mills. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. He was a retired member and co-founder of Upper Cleveland Rescue Squad.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Duane Self and Harlan Self.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Michael Self and wife, Sheila, of Arkansas; three daughters, Debbie Mauney of Cherryville, Shelia Hamrick and husband, Scott, of Lawndale and Juanita Martin and husband, Johnny, of Shelby; three sisters, Lorraine Cook of Lawndale, Faye Pruitt of Belwood and Bernice Leigh of Florida; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Mary VanDerwerken officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday at Stamey Funeral Home from 1 to 2 p.m.
