John Jackson Southards

Mr. John Jackson Southards, 87, of 105 Ball Park Road, Lawndale, died Sunday, February 26, 2006 at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born in Cleveland County, on April 25, 1918 he was a son of the late Burgin Jasper Southards and Mamie Prichard Southards. He was retired from Shelby Supply Company as a shipping clerk. He was a lifetime member of Lawndale Baptist Church where he was secretary of the Sunday school for over 50 years, and also a member of the House and Grounds Committee and a former deacon. Mr. Southards was in the US Air Force during WWII in the European Theater.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Floye Martin Southards; three sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Becky Southards of Shelby; Joe and Evelyn Southards of Cherryville; and Tom and Mary Southards of N. Canton, Ohio; a brother, Foy Southards and wife, Anne of Lawndale; two granddaughters, Sabrina Schutles and husband Kurt of Ivanhoe and Nichole Southards of High Point; and a grandson, Michael Southards and wife Emily of Belwood.

The funeral will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at Lawndale Baptist Church with the Pastor Jim Kilby and Rev. Cecil Buff officiating. The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes before the service. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 28, 2006 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.
