Effie Elizabeth Bivins Self

LAWNDALE — Mrs. Effie Elizabeth Bivins Self, 104, of 2619 Ball Park Road, died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2006, at Century Care of Shelby.

She was born Aug. 19, 1901, in Cleveland County, daughter of the late Perk Bivins and Nora Cook Bivins. She was a homemaker, a former employee of Cleveland Mills and the oldest living member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and a charter member.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Lee Self; three sons, John Howard, Duane and Harlan Self; three brothers, Cletus, Carl and Veles Bivins; and four sisters, Nettie Earls, Jettie Jones, Maudie Newton and Alma Pritchard.

She is survived by three daughters, Lorraine Cook of Lawndale, Faye Pruitt of Belwood and Bernice Leigh of Florida; two sisters, Macie Brackett of Lawndale and Ethel Costner of Morganton; 20 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.

The funeral is Saturday at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Larry Thompson officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial is in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home and other times will be at the home of Richard and Lorraine Cook, 2627 Ball Park Road, Lawndale.
