Roy A. Carter, Sr
VALE — Mr. Roy A. Carter Sr., 82, of 3644 Bridle Path Drive,
Vale, died Saturday, June 28, 2003, at Catawba Medical Center.
Born Aug. 27, 1920, in Anderson County, S.C., he was preceded in death by his
parents, Andrew Gibson Carter and Eunice Minerva Carter, as well as three
brothers and a sister. He worked as a heavy machine mechanic at Burns &
Spangler, Co. before retiring. He also served in the Army during World War II.
Surviving are a wife, Evelyn Garver Carter; a son and daughter-in-law, Roy A.
Carter Jr. and Hilda of Hickory; a daughter and son-in-law, Lonnie and Eddie
Sudduth of Newton; three sisters, Margaret Drake of Charlotte, Iola Sandermark
of Charleston, S.C. and Gladys McKnight of Shelby; four grandchildren and eight
great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 3 p.m. at the Stamey Funeral Home Chapel, with
Rev. Mike Harrill officiating. Burial will follow in the Palm Tree United
Methodist Church Cemetery.
There will be visitation at the Stamey Funeral Home from 2 to 3 p.m. Monday.
