Michael Ray Chapman, Sr

LAWNDALE — Mr. Michael Ray Chapman Sr., 45, of 1312 Belwood-Lawndale Road, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born Feb. 22, 1958, in Cleveland County, he was a son of Betty C. and Farrell Laughlin of Lawndale and the late J.P. Chapman. He was employed by the city of Morganton as street supervisor and formerly employed by Cleveland Mills. He was also a former detention officer for the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office. He attended Corinth Baptist Church and was a member of Carpenter’s Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Chapman.

In addition to his mother and stepfather, he is survived by his wife of 25 years, Patsy “Patty” Mosteller Chapman of the home; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael Jr. and Nichole Chapman and Doug and Cassie Chapman, all of Lawndale; a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne and David Merck of Shelby; a brother and sister-in-law, Scott and Debbie Chapman of Lawndale; two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Betty and Ed Leonhardt of Fallston and Bobbie and Danny Stovall of Iva, S.C.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Bob and Dessie Mosteller of Lawndale; six grandchildren, Mickeeley Chapman, Madison Chapman, Abbie Chapman, Taylor Merck, Cheyanne Merck and Burgan Merck; and a special nephew, Braydan Chapman.

The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Corinth Baptist Church with the Revs. Norris Willis and Jerry Welch and Dr. Dennis Bingham officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.

Burial will be in Carpenter’s Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8:30 at Stamey Funeral Home.
