Minnie "Ruth" Chapman

SHELBY — Mrs. Minnie “Ruth” Chapman, 81, of 114 Linsey Drive, died Sunday, Nov. 2, 2003, at Crawley Memorial Hospital.

Born June 22, 1922, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Ambrose and Maggie Poole Chapman. She worked in textiles and was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Tommy Carl Chapman; a son, Roger Chapman; a brother, John Chapman; and a sister, Beatrice Scism.

She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Evelyn Stroup and Norma Jo and Hoyt Deaton, all of Shelby; three brothers and their wives, Flay and Faye Chapman of Forest City, Gene and Joyce Chapman and A.J. and Carol Ann Chapman, all of Shelby; five sisters, Lula Mae Stidham and Margie Edwards, both of Shelby, Doris Beheler and husband, Buern, of Jacksonville, Fla., Mildred Wilkenson and husband, Charles, of Burlington, Texas, and Irene Hardin of Valdese; grandchildren, Donna Stroup, T.A. Stroup, Randall Deaton, Cindy Hogston, Roger Chapman Jr., Nichole Chapman and Michael Chapman; and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, with the Rev. Matthew Sarratt officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
