Ruth Grigg McKee

LAWNDALE — Mrs. Ruth Grigg McKee, 97, formerly of Garver Street, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2003, at White Oak Manor, Shelby.

Born March 6, 1906, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late George Hillard Grigg and Bessie Philbeck Grigg. She retired from Cleveland Mills and was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Horace Shafter McKee; a brother, Paul Grigg; and two sisters, Dorcas McKee and Ora Singleton.

She is survived by four sons and four daughters-in-law, Hillard and Colene McKee of Valdese, Gene and Helen McKee of Ellenboro, Glenn and Janice McKee of Lawndale and Roger and Dorothy McKee of Booneville; a daughter, Mary Ellen Wellmon of Shelby; a sister, Corene Greene of Shelby; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at Stamey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kelly Ottinger officiating.

Burial will be in Rehobeth United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at the funeral home and at other times the family will be at the home of Mary Ellen Wellmon, 1259 Hopewell Road, Shelby.
