Edith Haynes Hughes

ELLENBORO — Mrs. Edith Haynes Hughes, 81, of 232 Duncan’s Creek Church Road, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at her residence following a sudden illness.

She was a native of Cleveland County and a daughter of the late John Dargan Haynes and Zulia Carter Haynes. She was also a homemaker and member of the Big Springs Baptist Church and widow of the late Fred Carson Hughes Sr., who died in 2001.

Survivors include two sons, Fred Carson Hughes Jr., of Ellenboro and Roger Hughes of Rutherfordton; four brothers, J.C. Haynes of Morganton, John Haynes of Forest City, Bob Haynes of Bostic and Hal Haynes of California; and a sister, Beatrice Bell, also of California. There are six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Big Springs Baptist Church with the Rev. Phil Bailey officiating.

Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 8 at the Padgett and King Mortuary, 227 E. Main St., Forest City.
