Fred Carson Hughes

ELLENBORO - Mr. Fred Carson Hughes, 80, of  Duncan's Creek Road, died Saturday, Nov. 3, 2001, at the Rutherford Hospital.

A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Hoyle and Rose Bailey Hughes. He was a retired wholesale automobile dealer for McCurry-Deck Motors in Spindale. He was an Army veteran of World War II serving with the rank of first sergeant. He was a member of Big Springs Baptist Church where he served as deacon and former Sunday school teacher.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Edith Haynes Hughes of the home; two sons, Larry Roger Hughes of Rutherfordton and Fred Carson Hughes Jr. of Hollis; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Big Springs Baptist Church with the Revs. Lawton Neely and Phil Bailey officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at The Padgett and King Mortuary, 227 E. Main St., Forest City.
