Thurman P. Scism

KINGS MOUNTAIN — Mr. Thurman P. Scism, 92, of 130 Scism Road, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003, at Gaston Memorial Hospital in Gastonia.

A native of Cleveland County, he was the son of the late William Albert Scism and Mary Ellen Wright Scism. He retired from the N.C. Department of Transportation and from farming. He belonged to First Presbyterian Church, Kings Mountain.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wives, Lula Joyner Scism and Edith Wilson Scism; and a stepdaughter, Frances Richards.

He is survived by a son and his wife, Charles P. and Nancy Scism of Kings Mountain; a daughter and her husband, Nell S. and Robert Hurtt of Charlotte; a stepdaughter, Mildred Newton of Georgia; two grandchildren and their spouses, Phillip and Paula Scism and Charlotte and Tim Willis, all of Kings Mountain; four great-grandchildren; and a number of stepgrandchildren.

A graveside funeral will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Mountain Rest Cemetery, with the Revs. Lee Thomas and David Blanton officiating.

The family will receive friends at Harris Funeral Home from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. before the service. At other times, the family will be at the home of the son Charles Scism, 2027 Shelby Road, Kings Mountain.
