James "Jim"  Southard

LAWNDALE - Mr. James "Jim" Weldon Southard, 82, of Belwood-Lawndale Road, died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church, where he was a former deacon, Sunday school superintendent and a member of the Jim Cline Sunday School class. He was a member of the Lawndale Masonic Lodge, No. 486, and was a former coach for the Lawndale Little League. He was an Army veteran of the 41st Infantry who served in the Pacific during World War II. He received several Purple Hearts. He was an active member of the Lawndale Auto Parts Coffee Club, Eakers Red and White Fellowship Society, Lawndale Hardware, Paint and Gossip Club and Serendipity Antique News and Tall Tale Fraternity.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl Carpenter Southard of the home; three sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Ita Southard of Cork, Ireland, Tim and Anne Southard of Shelby and Terrell and Dinah Southard of Rock Hill, S.C.; one sister, Mary Lou Fox of Lawndale; one grandson, Jacob Southard of Houston; one granddaughter, Dara Southard of Rock Hill; and one great-grandson, Quinton Southard of Greenville, S.C.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church with the Revs. Bobby Gettys and Glenn Walker officiating. Burial will follow at New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends tonight from 6:30 to 8 at Stamey Funeral Home.
