William Clay "Tom" Wellmon

SHELBY — Mr. William Clay “Tom” Wellmon, 89, of 904 Blanton St., died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.

Born in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Henry R. and Maudie Wellmon Wellmon. He retired from Ora Mills and served in the Army during World War II, Asiatic-Pacific Campaigns, and was a Purple Heart recipient. He was a member of Hoyle Memorial United Methodist Church and loved gardening.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Littlejohn; and three brothers, Thurman, Everett and Worth Wellmon.

He is survived by a brother, Jack Wellmon and wife, Matte, of Shelby; a sister, Aileen Hamrick of Shelby; two sisters-in-law, Margaret Edmond and husband, Ralph, and Mildred Ramsey and husband, Jack, all of Shelby; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David J. Duncan officiating.

Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park with military honors by the Army.

The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.
